For the purpose of initial use, it is usually advisable to discharge a Apple battery to 3% only thereafter fully charge it (approx 12 hrs). Do not allow the battery discharge so that you can 0% initially, as it makes the battery vulnerable to damage/short battery life/not retaining the charge issues.
